North Park School History
The city of Baldwin Park located 20 miles east of Los Angeles and centrally located in the San Gabriel Valley is often referred to as the “Hub of the San Gabriel Valley.”
In 1956, the city was incorporated into Los Angeles County and is currently in midst of celebrating its 60th anniversary. Baldwin Park has its own police department, but contracts for Fire and Rescue with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Historically speaking, the city of Baldwin Park was originally a farming community that evolved over time into a suburban area with large service industries and government employers. The three largest employers operating in Baldwin Park are the Baldwin Park Unified School District, Kaiser Permanente Health, and The United Parcel Service. Other major retailers, such as Wal-Mart and Home Depot, operate locations in Baldwin Park as well.
Our Grand Opening of our new Auto Shop Building in 2014 provided our students with the latest and greatest technology. This addition includes 5 (five) bays with car lifts, tools, and a variety of advanced automotive equipment to provide over 150 students classes from beginning to advanced levels in automotive education. During the spring of 2015, NPHS was awarded a CTE grant which will provide us to provide new systems of alignment and articulating new CTE programs with regional and local partners to expand the postsecondary educational opportunities on campus. New programs such as Welding, Child Development, and Public Service will be taught at the school site in 2016.
Extended School Year Summer Credit Recovery Program has provided our students and additional month of school during the summer to take 2(two) additional classes 5 (five) credits each during a 6 (six) hour day. In the first year (2014) of starting the Summer Credit Recovery Program 194 students were enrolled and 154 were awarded credit. .
APEX learning program which a digital curriculum program is allowing students to work at their own pace to complete challenging coursework and earn credits they need.
Generating a culture and climate that is characterized by a positive rather than punitive atmosphere for behavior management has been the cornerstone of the new Administration at NPHS. Taking a proactive approach by building student relationships and connecting students with Mental Health Services such as Hillsides and Kaiser have contributed to major reductions in discipline.
In 2014, North Park High School was recognized for being an outstanding continuation school. The "Model Continuation Award" from the State of California recognized us for providing comprehensive services to at-risks youth through the use of exemplary instructional strategies, flexible scheduling, and guidance counseling. We take great pride and honor in serving the very best students with the very best instructional strategies and services.
