Greetings parents and students,

I teach Math at North Park High School. I became a Math teacher because I decided I wanted to help students that struggle through Math the way I did in High School. People make Math seem impossible and I aim to have students view math positively. There are many reasons why students struggle through school and I believe students need a second chance to improve themselves. I decided to teach so I could help  students looking to finish school and make positive choices in their lives as adults.

I will be teaching Integrated Math 1, Algebra 2, and reading. Accompanied is an outline of what is expected of the students in the classroom. It is very important that all students adhere to the academic/management plan. Thank you for taking your time to review the Academic/Management plan for this classroom.

Course Objectives/Standards:

Students will:

  • Read mathematical problems actively and critically
  • Write effective solutions to problems and projects
  • Present solutions to problems effectively
  • Use a variety of appropriate resources including computers and calculators to solve mathematical problems
  • Employ multiple critical and creative thinking strategies in reasoning and problem solving
  • Demonstrate a knowledge and appreciation of how mathematics can be used outside the mathematics classroom

Content Standards:

  • N.Q.1 – Use units as a way to understand problems and to guide the solution to multi-step problems.
  • N.Q.2 – Define appropriate quantities for the purpose of descriptive modeling.
  • N.Q.3 – Choose a level of accuracy appropriate to limitations on measurement when reporting quantities.
  • A.SSE.1 – Interpret the structure of expressions
  • A.CED.1 – Create equations and inequalities in one variable including ones with absolute value and use them to solve problems.
  • A.CED.2 – Create equations in two or more variable to represent relationships between quantities.
  • A.REI.1 – Explain each step in solving a simple equation
  • A.REI.3  Solve linear equations and inequalities in one variable, including equations with coefficients represented by letters.
  • A.REI.10 – Understand that the graph of an equation in two variables is the set of all its solutions plotted in the coordinate plane.
  • A-REI.11 – Explain why the x-coordinates of the points where the graphs of the equations y=f(x) andy y=g(x) interest are the solutions of the equation f(x)=g(x)
  • F-IF.1 - Understand that a function from one set (called the domain) to another set (called the range) assigns to each element of the domain exactly one element of the range.
  • F-IF.4 – For a function that models a relationship between two quantities, interpret key features of graphs and tales in terms of the quantities.
  • F-BF.1 – Write a function that describes a relationship between two quantities.

Classroom Management Plan:

  • All webcam meetings either on google meets or webex will be recorded and shared with the district
  • During online meetings students will be dressed appropriately if student is not wearing a shirt or has an inappropriate shirt/graphic they will be sent to the lobby of the webcam and asked to return once changed.
  • Any profanity, drug use, obscene gestures, aggressiveness or disrespectfulness toward an adult or other student will get the guilty student removed from the session until ready to return. The student will also be reported to administration with a report of the incident.
  • If the behavior continues parents will be contacted and administrative action will be requested.
  • Parents will be contacted if student is not attending classes or participating in activities. If problem persists administration will be notified.

Note: (Each violation and incident will be documented under the “Behavior Management Minor Incident Report” in Illuminate as evidence of occurrence)

Grading Scale:

  • 90% -- 100%   A
  • 80% -- 89%     B
  • 70% -- 79%     C
  • 60% -- 69%   D
  • 0% -- 59%     F
