Early Head Start at North Park High School
In March 2010, Baldwin Park Unified School District (BPUSD) Early Head Start and North Park High School’s Teen Parenting Program formed a collaboration to provide center-based services on North Park’s campus for children ages 6 weeks to 36 months. The availability of infant and toddler care for parenting teens affords them the opportunity to continue their academic education and gain parenting skills and understanding of child development. Expectant teen parents also receive prenatal classes to ensure a healthy pregnancy. Instruction is delivered using research-based curricula. Practicum experiences are facilitated in the child development center on campus. Teen parents participating in the program benefit from the availability of Early Head Start (EHS) Family Service Facilitators. Family Service Facilitators provide referrals to community agencies and ensure that each child’s health requirements are met according to developmental growth milestones. Teen parents also participate in Policy Council, Parent Workshops, and attend Parent Meetings on a monthly basis.
The Early Head Start Program is a comprehensive, integrated, community-linked, school-based program that serves expectant, parenting BPUSD students/ their children and eligible families and provides services at no cost to students:
- Child development services and childcare
- Career and vocational guidance
- Transition to university or community college
- Nutritional snacks- daily for pregnant and lactating students
- Parenting and prenatal classes
- Connection with health and social services
- Early intervention
- Parent workshops
Early Head Start (EHS) Services
EHS services are free at North Park High School for Baldwin Park Unified School District students and eligible families. This is based upon availability. Applications are accepted year around!
