The 2024 Nextgen Youth Workforce Program launched with an energetic press conference and job fair at the Baldwin Park Courtyard. The initiative aims at empowering young adults for the job market, and welcomed 198 enthusiastic students across BPUSD high schools, as well as city residents ages 14-24. The program, a collaborative effort between the City of Baldwin Park, Baldwin Park Unified School District, Goodwill Southern California East San Gabriel Valley AJCC, the Baldwin Park Business Association, and local businesses, also introduced a new mentorship partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters LA. This year marked a significant expansion, with double the number of high school students spanning freshmen, juniors, and seniors compared to the previous year.
The kick-off event featured a bustling job fair with over 25 local employer information booths. Students had the opportunity to network and explore potential job prospects. Among the highlights for students were booths from renowned brands like Raising Cane's and Baskin Robbins, healthcare giants such as Kaiser Permanente, and beauty services. Additionally, exclusive workshops tailored for BPUSD students provided valuable insights into resume writing, job applications, and honing interviewing skills.
“This is an outstanding program for our students to learn soft skills required to be successful in the workforce! We appreciate our partnership with the City of Baldwin Park, Goodwill, and all the companies that help prepare our students for the future.” Alicia Fields, BPUSD Director of Student Services said.
The Nextgen program not only equips young adults with invaluable work experience but also offers employers access to local potential candidates.
