The three high school seniors Christina Adame of Baldwin Park High School, Itzel Anaya of Sierra Vista High School and Mia Silva of North Park Continuation High School, were officially sworn in during the Board of Education meeting held Tuesday, Sept. 8. Each student was elected by their peers to represent their respective school community during the 2026-27 school year.
As student Board members, they will attend Board of Education meetings, provide updates and perspectives from their campuses, and cast preferential votes on matters before the Board. While preferential votes are advisory and do not affect the official Board vote, they provide an opportunity for student representatives to share their positions on issues affecting BPUSD schools and students.
The three representatives will also serve on Superintendent Dr. Froilan N. Mendoza’s Student Advisory Council, further expanding opportunities for students to provide input on their school experiences, programs and District initiatives.
Christina Adame, Baldwin Park High School
Christina Adame hopes to serve and support her school community, stay informed about issues affecting students and further develop her leadership and public speaking skills.
At BPHS, she serves as an Associated Student Body executive officer and vice president of the MEChA Club and is a member of the soccer team. Her favorite subject is science.
Following graduation, she plans to attend UC Riverside or a local community college and pursue a career as a child psychologist. Outside of school, she enjoys baking and working on do-it-yourself projects.
Itzel Anaya, Sierra Vista High School
Itzel Anaya hopes to use her position to advocate for students, make a positive impact on her school community and continue growing as a confident leader who helps foster an inclusive environment.
She serves as an ASB executive officer, National Honor Society president, NAMI treasurer and Community Schools intern and competes on the tennis team. Her academic interests include environmental and climate science.
After graduation, she plans to major in civil engineering with a focus on the environmental field. She is considering UC San Diego, UC Irvine, UCLA, Cal Poly Pomona and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo as she prepares for her next steps. In her free time, she enjoys painting with watercolors and acrylics.
Mia Silva, North Park Continuation High School
Mia Silva represents North Park Continuation High School and views the student Board member role as an opportunity to learn, build connections and engage directly with members of the Board of Education.
She serves as ASB vice president and a School Site Council member and participates in softball, volleyball and wrestling. Her favorite subjects are economics and government.
After graduation, she plans to attend a Los Angeles-area trade school and explore studies in culinary arts, carpentry and business administration. Her long-term goal is to become a business owner and open her own cafe. She also enjoys baking and finding creative outlets outside of school.
Together, the three student Board members will help bring student perspectives from across BPUSD’s high schools into District-level conversations throughout the 2026-27 school year.
